Colin Seeger

Colin Seeger B.Juris LL.B graduated in law from Monash University in Melbourne, then moved to the UK, working in the sharp end where technology, entertainment and international copyright management meet.

In 1984, Colin became Corporate Counsel and Head of Legal & Business at Polygram Australia (now Universal Music), overseeing legal work for recording, home video, and publishing divisions. He negotiated acquisitions, handled complex deals with TV and radio for “pay for play,” and introduced CDs and DVDs. He also established Polygram’s music publishing, managed content for home video, and contributed to ABC Enterprises co-venture setup.

In 1990, he became co-partner at Simpsons Solicitors, co- authoring the inaugural edition of “Music Business” with Shane Simpson. He served on the Australian Record Industry Association’s Copyright Committee and The Law Society of New South Wales’ Ethics Committee. Clients included the Wiggles and MCA Music.

He served on the Australian Record Industry Association’s Copyright Committee for years and the New South Wales Law Society’s Ethics Committee for four years. He currently serves on the International Music Managers Forum Copyright Committee.

In 1996, he launched one of Australia’s first specialist IP consultancies to advise commercial ventures on how best to secure the maximum benefit from their creative effort and intellectual property. The consultancy provides commercial advice to a wide range of businesses and ventures, including filmed content creators, animators, and children’s TV/content producers, technology-based ventures, and sporting/entertainment events.
